Some Economic Thoughts

Now that we have been a world economy for some time now, how does it really work?  How long can we keep printing money?  My understanding is that the US is printing about $85B per month and it is being used to pay our debts.  In addition, every hour of every day the government spends $200M more than it has.  Well, if that's the case, how long can our government print money before it no longer has any value?  And how long can we spend money we really don’t have?

And if we stop printing money, then how does the debt get paid?  Defaulting on our loan would probably turn the world, economically speaking, upside down!  This is where it becomes precarious, in that, no country wants us to default, because of the enormous impact it would have, but what is the alternative?  How can we just keep printing money?

This is not a direct criticism of the current administration, just common sense questions to a flawed plan that will inevitably create a devalued dollar, inflation of commodities and deflation of real estate.  I haven’t visited the Oracle of Delphi, and I’m certainly not an economist, but rather an average citizen who has lived long enough to see the unstable situation of our country’s economic standing.  Print money – money worth less.  Default on loan – economic turmoil.  Spend more money that you have – well, we all know the answer to that one!

Please don't think I have the answer to any of these mind-boggling questions.  It's just a common sense thing to me.  Something has to happen.  What that something is...I don't know.  What to do about it?  Not sure.  I do, however, think it's something we all need to be talking about.

Just a thought!!
